DIY Hand Sanitizer

It is hard to remember that our skin is part of our immune system and that it has its own microbiome. With our genetic makeup including microbes and viruses in order for us to even exist, it is important to take care of each aspect of our immunity. I’ve done quite a bit of deep cleaning when it comes to skin care products to reduce to chemical overload and preserve my skins natural microbes to keep that external barrier strong.

I use this blend in a small bottle and carry it with me everywhere!! Just give it a quick shake before applying it and you shouldn’t have to worry about harmful germs penetrating your skin barrier.

You will need:

  • A small spray bottle
  • 1/2 part Water
  • 1/8 part Vinegar
  • 1/4 Rose Water or Witch Hazel
  • 5-10 drops of Essential oils of choice
  • 1/8 part Olive Oil or carrier oil

This may not be suitable for small children depending on what essential oils you use since EO’s effect everyone at different ages differently. If there is any concern you can Follow the Dilution Rule from The Essential Life (2nd Edition, Total Wellness Publishing, 2015)

  • Babies: 0.3% dilution or 1 drop to 1 tablespoon oil
  • Children: 1.0% dilution or 1 drop to 1 teaspoon oil (also suitable for Pets)
  • Adults: 2-4% dilution or 3-6 Drops per teaspoon oil

DoTerra has their own children’s blends and hand sanitizer spray that you can use for more assurance if this is a concern and you can find them HERE on my personal advocate page, as well as more information on essential oil use and safety.
