One thing I have learned over time is that not all smoothies are equal. If you check your labels your might be shocked at what you find in them! Many sports protein shakes have gluten, high doses of sugar or sweeteners, and other inflammatory triggers in them as well. I’ve been avoiding some excess dairy products where I can while living in a cold and wet climate to reduce inflammation and mucus formation in my body, and many protein powders get their protein strictly from Whey, you guessed it, a dairy product.
This recipe is a quick and no BS way to keep from spending hundreds on good quality products while getting a substantial amount of omega oils and protein. And it keeps me full for the morning!
- 1 ripe banana
- 3-4 medjool Dates
- 1 1/2 tsp cacao powder
- 2 tsp maca powder
- 1 Tbsp (Milled) Hemp
- 1 Tbsp (Milled) Flax
- 1 tsp green powder (Chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass, etc)
Blend with 250 ml of water until smooth.
This is a great base for other smoothie ingredients as well! Feel free to explore and try adding other fruits or vegetables, superfood powders and other ingredients.
All of these ingredients can be found at your local Aldi and Lidl. If you check your local health shop, you can find your Omega seeds and dates at a better quality, and cheaper price I’ve noticed, but do what works for you.
